Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at King-Chavez Neighborhood of Schools! This school year is especially meaningful for our community, as we proudly celebrate 25 years of serving students and families in the heart of San Diego. What began in the year 2000 with just 75 students at the Academy of Excellence has grown into a thriving network of about 1,200 students across three beautiful school campuses, all rooted in the neighborhood that gave rise to our mission. Over the years, we’ve added schools, moved locations, and updated our logos—but one thing that has never changed is our deep love for the students and families we serve.
It feels especially fitting that our 25th anniversary comes at a time of such exciting transformation. This year:
-Our Blue School campus becomes home to TK–8 students for the first time, bringing new energy and joy to this vibrant space we now call Community Academy.
-Our TK–8 students at Excellence now step into a brand new school building in Barrio Logan, a true home for learning and community.
-And our high school students have been welcomed home to a beautiful new campus at 500 30th Street, a place designed to inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow.
Our commitment to academic excellence and community empowerment remains strong. Our Dual Language Program continues to grow and thrive, fostering bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding. We’re proud to share that many of our Class of 2025 graduates earned the California State Seal of Biliteracy, and an incredible 96% of our graduates are now attending college or career training programs.
We are endlessly grateful for the love, trust, and partnership of the community that has been the heart of our mission for 25 years. Here’s to a year full of learning, growth, and celebration—25 years strong and just getting started!
